As one of America’s “greatest generation," the 93-year-old author and 30-year military veteran takes his readers right along with him on a wild ride from 1925 to 1975.

A child of the Great Depression and a combat veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Col. Ferguson recounts very personal, first-person vignettes of one live-action scene after another that capture and hold the reader’s attention from start to finish.

Stories like these — from surviving beach invasions with General MacArthur in WWII as a 18-year-old sailor to numerous harrowing experiences as a combat fighter pilot and test pilot — are typically found only in action adventure novels. You and I will never experience the things he did, and only now, at age 93, did he decide to tell us about them in fast-paced and fluid prose.

You can think of this book as one person’s own real-life version of War and Peace. This one is a lot shorter, and very American. If every career promised to be like his, our military would have no difficulty recruiting the next generation of motivated sailors, soldiers, marines, and airmen.

A great and inspiring book that will be read and enjoyed for generations.
